The Royal Order of Experience Design is a Chicago-based digital agency that specializes in creating immersive experiences that combine the high quality production values and narrative storytelling of traditional media with the rich interactivity of the internet. Established in 2002, and with a client roster that includes some of the world’s most premier brands, The Royal Order has been able to thrive courtesy of the word-of-mouth that can only be achieved by developing award-winning solutions that keep clients happy, and coming back for more.

Partner Bios

TIM HOGAN

Tim has been an active member of the Chicago design community since 1993, designing websites, books, consumer package goods, corporate identity systems, online and offline advertising, interactive environments and a wide and a variety of print collateral. A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Tim spent the better part of the nineties cutting his teeth at small design firms owned or staffed by fellow alumni, then 1999 he joined Quantum Leap as an Associate Creative Director where he began designing web sites and online campaigns for brands including The University of Chicago, MSNBC and Anheuser-Busch.

As a partner and creative director of The Royal Order of Experience Design, Tim provides creative and strategic guidance, as well as maintaining oversight of visual design. His work has been recognized by award shows and publications including the American Institute of Graphic Arts, Graphis, Communication Arts, Strathmore, W3, Print Magazine and South by Southwest Interactive. As a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts and the Society of Typographic Arts, he is a frequent competition judge, student portfolio reviewer and guest speaker.

Tim serves as a board member with EPIC (Engaging Philanthropy, Inspiring Creatives), a Chicago-based organization that pairs creative professionals with select nonprofit clients whose missions focus on education, children and families. In addition, he donates ongoing time and talents to the Tutor/Mentor Connection, American Nutrition Association and Active Transportation Alliance. He lives on the north side with his wife and two children.

KYLE McCARTHY

Kyle began his career in 1995 as a copywriter for UK based advertising agency Austin Knight. His next stop was Leapnet, where he was introduced to digital marketing and web design. Since then, he's worked on a variety of projects, both online and off, including large scale e-commerce Web design, immersive online brand storytelling experiences, 360 degree digital marketing campaigns, viral videos, print, TV, radio, and even the occasional book and movie. As a Partner and Creative Director at The Royal Order of Experience Design Kyle is responsible for shaping brand and content strategy, as well as guiding visual design and brand voice for the client roster.

Kyle is a firm believer that truly great work never happens in a vacuum, and through close collaboration has been able to provide creative leadership for client partners such as Patagonia, Crate and Barrel, NEC Display Solutions and Sub-Zero and Wolf. Prior to the Royal Order, Kyle was a Senior Copywriter at Leapnet, where he worked with Anheuser-Busch, MSNBC, and NEC. As a freelance creative director, Kyle has done notable work for Gatorade, BP, Unilever and Wilson Sporting Goods.

Kyle's work has been recognized by award shows and publications including the American Institute of Graphic Arts, The Webby Awards, The FWA, Chicago Advertising Federation, Contagious Magazine and Wired Magazine.

Community

Members of Royal Order are actively involved in the community; hosting student tours, judging award competitions, speaking at conferences and participating in student portfolio reviews. We have also partnered with several non-profits here in Chicago, providing free services for organizations that face the same communication challenges as for profit companies, without the financial backing necessary to achieve their goals. These organizations include Tutor/Mentor Connection, EPIC, Inclusion Solutions and the Active Transportation Alliance.
